Social Computing & Media IS20110 - Week 1

In our first class of IS20110, our lecturer Shane McLoughlin, explained the different components of the module.

He explained that the module would be assessed through a group project in which each group must create a mobile app or web mash up application. This project is worth 50%. The second activity for assessment is an e - portfolio comprising of a number of lab tutorials, e - tutorials, a weekly note taking exercise and this very blog. The portfolio is worth 30% overall. Lastly, an online quiz worth 20% will take place at the end of the module.

Once these matters were discussed, Shane began to explore the concept of the different generations of the web which are known as web 1.0, web 2.0 and web 3.0. We also talked about the social media website called Facebook and discussed its rapid growth of progress over the years.

For week 1, as part of our e - portfolio, we completed 2 e - tutorials titled 'How to Collaborate Effectively' and 'How to create a Wiki on BB'. These tutorials consisted of an explanation of the topic at hand and then a short quiz at the end to make sure we had learned the essentials. Below are some screenshots of these tutorials.
